Generated Memories
Artist Statement
Generated Memories - Hong Kong is an immersive art installation that explores the relationship between personal narratives and collective erasure in a city perpetually under construction. Hong Kong exists as a multiverse of parallel realities, where each neighborhood carries a distinct history and altered or demolished sites take embedded memories with them.
Drawing on nearly a decade of living in Hong Kong, Li preserves not the object alone but the spatial context that once surrounded it, including textures of decay and traces of human presence. Through LiDAR scanning, 3D Gaussian Splatting, and volumetric capture, what remains is not a souvenir or a replica but a relational field in which the conditions of memory can be encountered again.
Moving between the physical traces of a disappearing past and a reimagined digital future, Generated Memories holds open what has been quietly lost and what might yet be reclaimed.
